Kodak Black, originally named Dieuson Octave, was born on June 11, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, to Haitian immigrant Marcelene Octave. He later changed his name legally to Bill Kahan Kapri.

After school, he started going to a local trap house to record music. His troubled past led to his expulsion from school in the fifth grade and his subsequent arrest for auto theft during middle school. Reflecting on his upbringing, Kodak Black mentioned he felt he had only two paths- ‘selling drugs with a gun on his hip or rapping’.

He adopted the nickname ‘Black’ when he was six years old. Later he chose ‘Kodak Black’ as his stage name, inspired by the association of ‘Kodak’ with pictures, which he adopted upon joining Instagram and later using it as his rap alias, embraced by his fans.

In 2009, at the age of 12, Kodak Black joined a rap group named Brutal Youngnz, performing under the stage name J-Black. Later, he became part of another local rap group called The Kolyons. By December 2013, Kodak Black released his debut mixtape, ‘Project Baby’, followed by ‘Heart of the Projects’ in December 2014, and ‘Institution’ in December 2015.

Kodak Black gained attention when Canadian rapper Drake shared a video of himself dancing to Kodak Black's song ‘Skrt’ , leading to increased popularity. Before this point, Kodak Black was oblivious to the mainstream hip hop audience. Despite some objections, Kodak Black signed a deal with Atlantic Records in 2015. In 2016, he announced a national tour with Lil Uzi Vert, but he did not participate for personal reasons.

Kodak Black then collaborated with French Montana on the single ‘Lockjaw’ and his single ‘Skrt’ reached number 10 on Billboard's ‘Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles’ chart in August 2016. He also released his fourth mixtape, ‘Lil B.I.G. Pac’ which charted on Billboard. Additionally, he was named one of XXL magazine's "2016 Freshman Class."

In August 2016, Kodak Black faced criticism for derogatory remarks about dark-skinned black women. Despite legal issues, he released the song ‘Can I’ while in jail. His single ‘Tunnel Vision’, released in February 2017, became his first top 10 hit on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Kodak Black's debut studio album, ‘Painting Pictures’ was released in March 2017, reaching number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. He stirred controversy by insulting fellow rappers Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty during an Instagram livestream. He followed up with ‘Project Baby 2’ in August 2017 and a deluxe version titled ‘Project Baby 2: All Grown Up’ in November 2017.

Speaking of his legal troubles, Kodak Black has faced a series of legal issues throughout his career. In December 2013, he was arrested in Pompano Beach, Florida, for armed robbery and false imprisonment. He was later released on bail. In May 2015, he was arrested again and charged with possession of cannabis, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and robbery without a firearm.

Kodak Black was arrested on charges of robbery, battery, false imprisonment of a child, and possession of cannabis in October 2015. He was also charged with sexual assault in South Carolina, which led to his arrest in April 2016. In May 2016, he was released on bond.

In February 2017, Kodak Black was arrested on multiple charges, including grand theft of a firearm, possession of cannabis, and child neglect. He violated his probation and was sentenced to 364 days in prison.

In April 2019, he was arrested at the U.S.-Canada border on drug and weapons charges. He pleaded guilty to federal weapons charges and was sentenced to 46 months in prison. It was reported that the ‘ZEZE’ rapper plunked down 6 figures on a new custom chain complete with a blinged-out binky, spending a whopping $180,000 to freeze his neck and fill his mouth with ice!

According to reports, Kodak Black hit up celebrity jeweler Eliantte for the pacifier charm dangling from a Hermes link chain, and Eliantte mentioned that the bling features 98 carats of blue and white diamonds.

It was revealed that Kodak Black and Eliantte had been talking about creating this custom piece for a few years, and it finally came to fruition. KB didn't have his baby bling yet, but it was about to be delivered. Then the jeweler finally completed the chain and handed it over to the rapper.

This means Kodak Black was super confident about the success of ‘Project Baby’. And when the album paid dividends, the rapper didn’t hesitate to splash some big money to honor the album. The pacifier pendant also has the name of the album in it, and of course, covered in diamonds!

The 18k gold chain comes with a pendant, shaped like the official emblem of the state of Israel. The emblem is called the Star of David, or the Megan Star. The six-pointed star in Kodak Black’s chain is iced out with diamonds. When he revealed the chain for the first time, he said that someone was watching over him and he was feeling blessed. Well, it was not long after his release from jail, he needed the blessing for sure! 

This is one of the most popular jewelry pieces owned by Kodak Black. Contrary to popular belief, he did not go to a jeweler to hand in a custom order for this chain. In fact, he actually received it as a gift!

In 2022, Kodak Black received this custom glow-in-the-dark diamond chain to celebrate the recent success of his track ‘Super Gremlin’. During his performance at a Miami nightclub, jeweler Maksud Trax Agadjani of TraxNYC, whom one of Kodak's producers often visits, jumped on stage to personally deliver the chain to the rapper.

Agadjani explained in a video that Kodak or his producer spotted the chain on their website and wanted it for the song ‘Super Gremlin’, which was a massive hit during that time. The chain, designed as a monster tennis chain, features glowing orange diamonds. It comes with 30 pointers and it is 24 inches in length.

While explaining its quality, Agadjani specifically mentioned its VS1 clarity and G color. Agadjani highlighted how the flashing lights on the chain complemented Kodak's performance of ‘Super Gremlin’ for that night.

Before Agadjani handed the chain to Kodak Black, the chain sparked controversy when Portland-based designer 1800 Laboratories accused TraxNYC of stealing a design supposedly created for HK Billy in July 2021. 

In response, Agadjani acknowledged the situation and expressed his intention to resolve the matter amicably, emphasizing his commitment to honesty and integrity. We do not know how they handled it later. However, we don’t think Kodak found it troublesome, as he was way too happy to receive the chain. 

From Kodak Black’s history, we know that he was raised in the Golden Acres public housing project in Florida. While the rapper didn’t actually have the most perfect childhood there, as he got into trouble with law enforcement multiple times, he still cherishes his memory of growing up in that community. Whether good or bad, Golden Acres is the reason Kodak Black became the person today, and he respects that.

This is why he got himself a massive Golden Acres pendant. The hexagon-shaped pendant is one of the biggest ones in his collection, and it includes the address of the place where he grew up. Near the edge of the chain the name of the area ‘Golden Acres’ is written in capital letters. At the center, there is an even bigger text, which says ‘1800 Block’. The letter ‘k’ in the word ‘block’ is shaped like a gun. Kodak Black didn’t forget to add his own quirky twist to the pendant!

The pendant is fully iced out with 70-80 carats of diamond and made of 18k gold. This is one of his most iconic pieces, as he has been spotted many times in public wearing this pendant with different chains. 

Kodak showed his appreciation to Trump once more by showcasing a new pendant worth almost $10,000, which he wore on the week of Trump’s 76th birthday. The pendant depicted Trump wearing a MAGA hat and smoking a joint.

“Happy Z Day #DT I Love You N***a @realdonaldtrump @donaldtrumpjr,” Kodak wrote on his Instagram Stories. The team behind the unique piece, Trax NYC Jewelers in New York City, also shared a video on Instagram. Maksud “Trax” Agadjani revealed that the piece, which had been gifted to Kodak weeks ago, was actually made as a surprise for the rapper.

If it was not for former president Donald Trump’s generosity, Kodak Black would still be serving his sentence in prison. When Trump had him released, Kodak Black was very grateful for the former president’s kindness.

Kodak Black didn’t take long to show his appreciation for Donald Trump after being pardoned by the former president. A few days after he was freed, the artist appeared on “The Fat Joe Show,” where he and Fat Joe discussed his post-prison charity efforts, return to music, and more. During the chat, Kodak revealed his new diamond-encrusted ring that read, ‘Trump Ties’.
